About Us
NicNut Farms is the descendant of seven generations of family farming. The Nicolaus family immigrated from Germany over 150 years ago, planting their legacy in the Midwest among acres of soybeans, wheat, corn, and even sheep. Later, drawn to temperate climates, the family decided to forge a new path out west in California. Nicolaus Nut Company started in Chico, California in 1988.
After seven generations, we have come to realize that the dirt isn't just under our nails, it's in our blood.
Today, our mission is to see Nicolaus Nut Company, reborn as NicNut Farms, move into the next generation and many more to come. We embrace a farm that goes beyond producing excellent almonds and walnuts. In a rapidly changing climate, we are dedicated to climate-smart agriculture, community, and leaving the planet better than we found it. We believe in a world where agriculture serves the environmental, social, and economic well-being of all.
At NicNut Farms, we are deeply passionate about three distinct pillars of climate-smart farming: soil stewardship, pollinator health, and water conservation. We utilize practices like cover cropping, whole orchard recycling, carbon sequestration, precision irrigation, reduced tillage, dust control and minimization, and many other climate-smart practices.
